How do you turn an ordinary cup of tea into a memorable one?
Or even an extraordinary one?
Here at Ada's Tea Cup, we believe there are three important components: the ingredients, the process, and the moment.
1. Ingredients
A beautiful cup starts with the ingredients.
Quality tea matters.
The leaves.
The blend.
The aroma.
The care that went into it.
Use tea that smells fresh and looks alive. Whether you reach for loose leaf or tea bags is a personal decision based upon time, convenience, etc., but good tea is good tea. (Read more in Loose Leaf Tea vs. Tea Bags: There’s Room for Both.)
If you're not sure where to begin, Morning Rain, Timeless Grey, and Golden Soothe each offer something different in the cup.
Of course, water matters too.
Use fresh, cold, preferably filtered water so the flavor of the tea can come through clearly.
2. Process
The process is also important.
Water temperature and steeping time can make a real difference in your tea experience.
- Black tea: 200–212°F, steep for 3–5 minutes
- Green tea: approximately 170–180°F, steep for 2–3 minutes
- White tea: approximately 160–185°F, steep for 3–5 minutes
- Herbal tea: 200–212°F, steep for 5–7 minutes
These guidelines are offered as a starting point, but each tea is different, and each person is different. So, adjust to your preference. If you prefer a strong cup, add a little more tea rather than steeping longer.
Experiment a little. A little attention to temperature and timing go a long way and let each tea reveal its own character.
And, remember: a few small things can make a big difference
- Measure with care: a heaping teaspoon of loose leaf per cup, or one bag per cup, is a good starting point.
- Watch and listen: if you don't have a thermometer, pay attention-the water will tell you when it's about to boil (you don't want it boil for green and white teas)
- Preheat the cup: a warm cup keeps the tea at the right temperature while you sip.
- Taste as you go: the best steep time is the one your palate loves.
3. The moment
Then, there's the part no tea blend or process can completely define.
Which cup are you using?
Who are you with?
Where are you?
What are you doing?
Maybe you're sharing tea with someone you love.
Maybe it's a quiet morning.
Maybe you're curled up with a book.
Maybe you're catching up with a friend.
Maybe these are simply 10 peaceful minutes you carved out for yourself today.
At Ada's Tea Cup, we can help you with the beautiful tea blends. We can guide you through the process. We can even offer suggestions for creating a meaningful tea moment. But the perfect cup? That's the one you make. It's the moment you create.
So, choose your favorite tea. Put the kettle on. Pay attention to the details — and then let yourself enjoy the moment.
